Setting and Type of Tale

The Pardoner’s Tale is set in Flanders, the northern Dutch-speaking region of Belgium.




“The Pardoner’s Tale” is an exemplum.  This is a tale where the reader learns a lesson as an example of what one should or shouldn’t do. The Greek writer Aesop is most famous as an author of fables (Wheeler).


Exemplum- A brief story used to make a point in an argument or to illustrate a moral truth.
